In the post-Bachelor study program (Master’s program) at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, mandatory professional experience of students is part of the studies (so-called Interim Project) for at least a semester since 2009.
IT is a service whose main tasks include designing, implementing, and running supporting activities in a matter of achieving the realization of the economic goals of the subjects. Besides good knowledge of IT, good orientation in the real problems of the users is needed. Education of the graduates must be multidisciplinary, with the professional experience included in the student’s program(s) as well. That is the reason why professional practice is mandatory as part of the studies at least for a semester.
1 semester is minimum professional practice time and it corresponds to the real length of actual projects. The student has an opportunity to see the practical results of his work and the company gets back the sources invested in the student. Students may get paid by the company, but it is not a condition. Several projects have been implemented as part of this project, mostly successful start-up projects. Companies agree, that SSME students and the collaboration overall are a significant benefit for them. 70% of students, that are part of the interim project, connect their practice with diploma thesis,60% of students receive an offer of permanent employment.
