O akci

The European Celebration of Girls in ICTs: Digital Skills for Lifewill be held virtually on the 27th of April 2023 from 09:00 to 11:00 CEST. This event is organized by ITU, in collaboration with Czechitas, the 2022 ‘EQUALS in Tech’ Award winner in the Skills category.

Each year, the International Day of Girls in ICT is celebrated to raise awareness about the gender digital divide and to support skills development and technology education for girls and young women toward education and professional careers in STEM fields, particularly within the ICT sector. The Girls in ICT celebrations aim at inspiring and encouraging girls to pursue a future in ICTs and to empower them by ensuring they have the necessary skills, confidence, and support to achieve their goals.

ITU will continue its year-round efforts to promote Girls in ICT throughout 2023. This year’s celebration theme, “Digital Skills for Life”, has been identified in consultation with youth. The theme spotlights the importance for girls and young women to thrive in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as both ICT users and creators in a digital world.

The Event will aim to engage a wide range of stakeholders across the Europe Region to share how tech skills for women and girls can scale to close the gender digital divide and bring greater benefit to society and the economy. By connecting women representatives from Ministries, NGOs, UN Organizations, Private Sector, and the Network of Women with young women and girls across Europe, the event will provide role models and an opportunity to inspire young people towards tech studies and careers. By engaging the Generation Connect Europe Youth Group, the event will also aim to highlight the importance and value of digital skills for young people in the digital economy, building upon the goals of the European Year of Skills as declared by the European Commission.
