Digital government is fast becoming the norm. And it’s easy to see why: it promises benefits such as economic growth, better services, and increased public satisfaction.

But it’s easy to feel unprepared in this shifting technological landscape, with policy and delivery practices changing all the time, and the way that we’re all thinking about work and organisational culture changing, too.

Adopting a digital mindset can help you overcome these challenges. In this course, developed with the Ontario Digital Service, you’ll learn about four key mindsets to help you adapt and thrive in the new digital world: self-awareness, growth, inclusion, and resilience.

This course is for anyone who wants to develop a digital mindset to help them in their job, whether or not they work in digital.

Technology is an underlying dependency of government, a conduit to realising policy goals. To harness its potential, public servants at every level need basic knowledge of the role technology plays in delivering policy outcomes, so that digital literacy informs all decisions and operations in government.

In partnership with the Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation at Georgetown University, this course teaches public servants the digital fundamentals. You will come away understanding what digital products are, how they come to be, and what they look like in a government context.

You’ll also look at the key features of the digital products that drive government services, and consider the risks and the opportunities that technology presents to governments. You will leave the course equipped with the baseline understanding to be more digitally minded, and to be a better informed partner to technology specialists.

This course is for a wide audience. Whether you are a public servant in a non-technical role, a senior manager, or a consultant within professional service industries, this course will give you the knowledge you need to understand and implement digital technology in government.
